SUSAN FELDMAN
MOC (My Own City)

A video profile by Annie Terrazzo

In 2020, Annie Terrazzo met and interviewed eight artists virtually to discuss their working habits and life during the lockdown. In particular, Susan Feldman’s art stood out as she had made her own city in her studio, titled MOC (My Own City) and it was hard to capture that via Zoom. In 2021, Annie revisited Susan as the artist was about to open the first public viewing of the work at The Rendon Gallery in DTLA.

MOC (My Own City) is an installation of 50 unique buildings representing a welcoming neighborhood in a utopian-like city for all to inhabit. Created as a site-specific installation, these tiny structures (houses and various community buildings) are made primarily out of found wood with added embellishments to define further what they represent. The buildings are set on ramps and wooden beams on various levels, allowing the viewer to wander through the neighborhood as one does.
